Dr. Ryan M. Naylor is a fellowship-trained cerebrovascular neurosurgeon specializing in the open microsurgical and endovascular management of complex neurovascular disorders. His expertise includes the treatment of intracranial aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations and fistulas, cavernous malformations, intracranial and extracranial steno-occlusive disease, ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, chronic subdural hematoma, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, and hydrocephalus.
He also has advanced training in skull base neurosurgery and treats patients with extra-axial and intra-axial brain tumors as well as cranial neuralgias (including trigeminal, glossopharyngeal, and hemifacial spasm).
Additionally, Dr. Naylor has particular expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of spontaneous intracranial hypotension, employing both endovascular embolization of CSF–venous fistulas and microsurgical repair of spontaneous spinal CSF leaks.
Dr. Naylor earned his B.S. in Biological Sciences and Chemistry from the University of California, Irvine, followed by his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine and Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, respectively. He completed his neurosurgery residency at the Mayo Clinic, where he also completed enfolded fellowships in endovascular neurosurgery and skull base oncology.
Dr. Naylor has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications. His basic science research focuses on elucidating the biological mechanisms underlying brain arteriovenous malformations and developing novel therapeutic strategies for their treatment. He is also interested in outcomes-based clinical neurosurgery research and operative video scholarship.
